No more one man show

With a week to go before filming begins, An Enemy has announced the rest of the cast.

It looked like for a while Jake would be doing a one man show but ScreenDaily has the exclusive announcement about who his co-stars will be:

Melanie Laurent, Sarah Gadon and Isabella Rossellini have joined Jake Gyllenhaal on the cast of Pathe’s Cannes buzzer An Enemy, described by director Denis Villeneuve as “an existential erotic thriller.”

Gyllenhall plays Adam, a history teacher living a quiet life with his girlfriend (Laurent) until he discovers his physical double (who lives with his wife, played by Gadon). The two men’s lives become intertwined precipitating a lethal struggle.

Melanie Laurent is French actress best known for her role as Shosanna Dreyfus in Quentin Tarantino's film Inglourious Basterds. She will be playing the history teacher's girlfriend.

Sarah Gadon is a Canadian actress who got her start in television. Her first role was in and episode of La Femme Nikita. Recently she was in David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method and Cosmopolis. She plays the actor's wife.

And actress Isabella Rossillini is the daughter of Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman and Italian director Roberto Rossellini. Probably best known for her role as the tortured lounge singer Dorothy Vallens in David Lynch's film Blue Velvet.

Rossillini will play the history teacher's mother. That has the potential for all kind of weirdness. Especially if she shows up like a duck, anchovy, or snail. Her series of shorts for the Sundance Channel Green Porno, (NSFW)recreated the mating behavior of nature. Although if she did dress up like one of her bug characters the whole thing could go Kafka and Freudian at the same time.

Still not sure who the audience is for this movie. It seems more art house than mainstream. It looks like Jake is going back to his indie roots.
