Impetus

Russ came round last night so we could have a bash at his new Impetus rules.  We'd played the 'Lite' version previously and I wasn't impressed, but the full rule set was much better.  Despite a lot of thumbing through the book by Russ, we managed to get a full battle in (Macedonians vs Persians).

The result (a Macedonian win) was inconsequential as we were just trying out 'what if' types of arrangements - like what if the Persians charged into a Macedonian pike wall - what would happen (A: they die).

The battle saw the Macedonian cavalry squeak a narrow win against their Persian counterparts followed by the Persians charging the pikes (after their skirmishers had done a bit of disruption).  All in all, good fun!

I quite liked the rules.  Of course I wouldn't spring the £27 they cost to buy but I can see that you could certainly get a battle in an hour if you know what you're doing and it seemed a fair rule set but lose a few troops and you're in a world of hurt.

Not sure if it would supercede FOG for me but definitely one for consideration.
