Suppression / explosion markers for WW2 (Spearhead)

I've tinkered with 3D suppression markers for Spearhead (WW2 wargaming, 6mm scale) but not been that happy with the results and have been looking for alternatives.

I came across some felt pads in Poundland (rapidly becoming my favourite place for cheap scenery ideas).  Painted black then given an 'explosive' mix of red, orange and yellow, they take on the appearance of an incoming round.

The pads come in sheets.  Spray matt black and then build up the colours as you get towards the centre.
Red - orange - yellow.  The above just shows deep red on two columns.

The pads come in 3 sizes, giving me an option regarding scales (so the larger may do for 15mm / 28mm and the smaller for 6mm).  Simply place next to or on a 'suppressed unit' and you can easily see who's hunkered down and who's not.

Suppression markers - 10p coin for scale.
